TIFF, Transilvania International Film Festival, accredited by FIAPF, has announced the award winners for 2022 festival, which took place from June 17-26 in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania.

Transilvania International Film Festival, or TIFF, is the biggest international film festival in Romania, which is held annually in the historic capital of Transylvania, Cluj-Napoca.

Transilvania International Film Festival 2022 Award Winners

Transilvania Trophy

Winner: “Utama” by Alejandro Loayza Grisi

The Transilvania Trophy of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) went to “Utama” by Alejandro Loayza Grisi from Bolivia, Uruguay, France.

Best Directing Award

Winner: Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson for “Beautiful Beings” (“Berdreymi”)

The Best Directing Award of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF)—worth 3.500 euros— went to went to Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson for “Beautiful Beings” (“Berdreymi”) from Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Czech Republic.

Special Jury Award

Winner: “Feature Film About Life” (“Ilgo metro filmas apie gyvenimą”) by Dovile Sarutyte from Lituania

The Special Jury Award of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF)—in amount of 1,500 euros, offered by CEMACON—went to “Feature Film About Life” (“Ilgo metro filmas apie gyvenimą”) by Dovile Sarutyte from Lithuania.

Best Performance Award

Winner: Laura Müller and Schemci Lauth for “The Night Belongs To Lovers” (“La Nuit Aux Amants”)

The Best Performance Award of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF)—worth 1.000 de euros, offered by Conceptual Lab by Theo Nissim—went to Laura Müller and Schemci Lauth for their portrayals of Axelle and Yoann in the French drama “The Night Belongs To Lovers” (“La Nuit Aux Amants”) directed by Julien Hilmoin.

Special Mention of the Jury

Winner: Eszter Csonka for “Gentle” (“Szelíd”)

The Special Mention of the jury for Best Performance went to Eszter Csonka for her portrayal of Edina in the Hungarian drama “Gentle” (“Szelíd”) directed by László Csuja & Anna Nemes.

“What’s up, Doc?” Section Award

Winner: “You Are Ceaușescu To Me” by Sebastian Mihăilescu

The best award—worth 2000 euros, offered by Tenaris Silcotub—in the “What’s up, Doc?” competition section of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) went to “You Are Ceaușescu To Me” by Sebastian Mihăilescu from Romania.

Special Mention of “What’s up, Doc?” Jury

Winner: “Atlantide” (“Atlantis”) by Yuri Ancarani

The Special Mention Jury Award in the “What’s up, Doc?” competition section of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) went to “Atlantide” (“Atlantis”) by Yuri Ancarani from Italy, France, USA, Qatar.

FIPRESCI Award

“Immaculate” by Monica Stan, George Chiper-Lillemark

The FIPRESCI Award offered by the International Federation of Film Critics (awarded to one film from the Romanian Days competition section) went to “Immaculate” by Monica Stan, George Chiper-Lillemark.

Audience Award

Winner: “Utama” by Alejandro Loayza Grisi

The Audience Award—worth 2.000 euros, offered by MasterCard—of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) went to “Utama” by Alejandro Loayza Grisi from Bolivia, Uruguay, France.

The Audience Award for the Most Popular Romanian Film

Winner: “The Goat and Her Three Kids” by Victor Canache

The 2022 TIFF Audience award—worth 1500 euros, offered by Dacin Sara—for the most popular Romanian Film went to “The Goat and Her Three Kids” by Victor Canache.

Excellency Award

Winner: Maia Morgenstern

The Excellency Award—offered by Mercedes-Benz—went to Maia Morgenstern.

Romanian Days: Best Feature Film

Winner: “Miracle” by Bogdan George Apetri

The Best Feature Film Award—worth 10.000 euros (post-production services) offered by Cinelab România—in the Romanian Days competition section of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) went to “Miracle” by Bogdan George Apetri.

Romanian Days Award for Best Debut

Winner: “Blue Moon” by Alina Grigore

The Romanian Days Award for Best Debut—worth 1.000 euros, offered by Banca Transilvania—went to “Blue Moon” by Alina Grigore.

Romanian Days Special Mention, Feature Film

Winner: “Man and Dog” by Ștefan Constantinescu

The Special Mention award for Feature Film in the Romanian Days competition section of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) went to “Man and Dog” by Ștefan Constantinescu.

Romanian Days Award for Best Short Film

The Romanian Days Award for Best Short Film—worth 5,000 euros (camera & electric & grip equipment services), offered by CutareFilm—went to “Aurică, viață de câine” (“Aurică, a Dog’s Life”) by Mihai Dragolea.

Romanian Days Special Mention, Short Film

Winner: “Moștenirea” (“The Inheritance”) by Marian Fărcuț

The Special Mention award for Short Film in the Romanian Days competition section of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) went to “Moștenirea” (“The Inheritance”) by Marian Fărcuț.

Winner: “Fragmentări” (“Fragmentations”) by Miruna Minculescu

“Full Moon Script Contest” Award

Winner: “Squash a bug for me” by Alex Olteanu

The “Full Moon Script Contest” (Best Pilot Script for Series/ Miniseries)—in amount of 1,500 euros— went to the project “Squash a bug for me” by Alex Olteanu.

Chainsaw Europe Award

Winner: “Avanos” by Panagiotis Charamis

The Chainsaw Europe Award of the 2022 Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) went to “Avanos” by Panagiotis Charamis.

The Transilvania Pitch Stop Development Award

Winner: “40, Maria Luisa Boulevard” by Kristina Spassovska

The Transilvania Pitch Stop Development Award—in amount of 5,000 euros, offered by Avanpost Media & TIFF—went to “40, Maria Luisa Boulevard” by Kristina Spassovska.

The Moldova National Film Center Award

Winner: “As Shadows Fade” by Burcu Aykar

The Moldova National Film Center Award—offered within the Transilvania Pitch Stop program, in amount of 1,500 euros—went to “As Shadows Fade” by Burcu Aykar.

The CoCo Award

Winner: “Where Elephants Go?” by Gabi Șarga, Cătălin Rotaru

The CoCo Award—offered by Connecting Cottbus Co-Production Market—went to “Where Elephants Go?” by Gabi Șarga and Cătălin Rotaru.

VILLA KULT Development Award

Winner: “Light” by Director Maxim Baraliuc and  Producer Ana Volosinovici

The VILLA KULT Development Award (dedicated to development and research for a project in Romania/Moldavia)—worth 500 euros—went to the project “Light” by Director Maxim Baraliuc and  Producer Ana Volosinovici.

Local Competition Award

Winner: “Emilia Hosu are H.I.V” by Ioana Păun

The Local Competition Award—worth 1,500 euros, offered by Banca Transilvania and post-production services, worth 15,000 euro, offered by Numa Film—went to “Emilia Hosu are H.I.V” by Ioana Păun.

Special Mention in the Local Competition

Winner: “Dragoste în vremea coronei/ Szerelem a korona idején” by Szucher Ágnes-Bernadett

The Special Mention Award in the Local Competition—worth 7,000 euros (in post-production services), offered by Numa Film—went to “Dragoste în vremea coronei/ Szerelem a korona idején” by Szucher Ágnes-Bernadett.

Alex. Leo Șerban Scholarship

Winner: “Don’t Let Me Die” by Andrei Epure and Ana-Maria Gheorghe

Alex. Leo Șerban Scholarship—worth 2500 euros, offered in partnership with Conceptual Lab by Theo Nissim—went to “Don’t Let Me Die” by Andrei Epure and Ana-Maria Gheorghe.

Leo Șerban Scholarship Special Mention (awarded to a young Romanian actor in a short or feature film that premiered in 2021)—worth 1,000 euro, offered in partnership with Conceptual Lab by Theo Nissim—went to Conrad Mericoffer for portrayal of Cristi in the Romanian drama “Câmp de maci” (“Poppy Field”) directed by Eugen Jebeleanu.

The Young Francophone Jury Prize

Winner: “Happening” (“L’Événement”)  by Audrey Diwan

The Young Francophone Jury Prize—offered by TV5 Monde, RFI Romania, Institut Français—went to “Happening” (“L’Événement”)  by Audrey Diwan from France.
