Universo Corto 2022 announces its winners

Universo Corto, an international short film festival in Italy, has announced the complete list of award winners for 2022 festival, organizers announced on July 25th.

Universo Corto is an international short film festival, held annually since 2014, in Pisa, Italy.

19th short films from 15 countries were short-listed out of 400 received entries to compete in the 51th edition of the Universo Corto. The festival took place from Wednesday, July 20th, to Friday, July 22nd, with evening screenings of the short films in competition at the Torre di Lavello Park (Parco Torre di Lavello) in Tuscania.

The Jury of the 2022 Universo Corto, made up of Maria Elena Bianchi Bandinelli (architect and president of the Young People Cultural Circle), Marianne Catzaras (poet and photographer), Meryam Jobbeur (director and president of the jury), Flavia Monceri (university professor) and Salvatore Zappia (actor), has agreed by majority to honor the following as award winners.

Universo Corto 2022 Award Winners

Audience Award

“Homeless” by Luca Esposito from Italy won the Audience Award of the 2022 Universo Corto.

Directed by by Luca Esposito, in “Homeless”, under the gaze of passersby, a Philadelphia homeless man tries to show the world the only thing that belongs to him.

Artistic Direction Award

The Danish short drama “On My Mind” by Martin Strange-Hansen won the Artistic Direction Award of the 2022 Universo Corto.

Directed by Martin Strange-Hansen, “On My Mind” tells the story of Henrik, who wants to sing a song for his wife. It has to be today, it has to be now. It’s a question of life, death and karaoke.

Best Director Award

Emmanuel Tenenbaum, the director of the short French drama “Free Fall” won the Best Director Award of the 2022 Universo Corto.

Directed by by Emmanuel Tenenbaum, “Free Fall” tells the story of Tom, a young trader in a London bank, whose recent performance has put his job on the line. When the first plane hits the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11th 2001, Tom jumps into the biggest trade of his life. Inspired by a true story.

Grand Jury Award

The Grand Jury Award of the 2022 Universo Corto went to “Roy” directed by Tom Berkeley & Ross White from UK.

Directed by Tom Berkeley & Ross White, “Roy” tells the story of a reclusive widower, who accidentally calls an adult hotline worker and an unlikely friendship is born.

Best Short Film Award

“Three Meetings of the Extraordinary Committee” by Max Barron & Jones won the Best Short Film Award of the 2022 Universo Corto.

Directed by Max Barron & Jones, in the BAFTA-nominated short drama “Three Meetings of the Extraordinary Committee”, when the citizens of the small farming village of Dobre vote for a mythical creature, democracy comes face to face with reality.

A special edition of the Universo Corto will be held in September.
