Short Fest 2022, or the 28th Palm Springs International ShortFest, has announced the complete list of award winners, organizers announced on June 27th.
The 2022 Palm Springs International ShortFest has screened 51 curated programs showcasing 300 films including 38 World Premieres, 17 International Premieres, 35 North American Premieres and 18 U.S. Premieres in a week-long showcase of the best short films in narrative, documentary, live action, and animated form.
Designated by AMPAS, BAFTA, BIFA and Goya Awards as an award-qualifying festival, and accredited by the International Short Film Conference, the Palm Springs International ShortFest & Short Film Market is one of the most acclaimed short film showcases in the world.
Winners in the Best Live Action Short, Best Documentary Short, Best Animated Short, and Best of the Festival categories are considered for the pre-selection of the Oscars provided that the film complies with the Academy’s rules.
“Sierra” by Sander Joon from Estonia won the Best of The Festival Award of the 2022 Palm Springs International ShortFest.
The Special Mention award went to “The Great Abandonment” by Shirley Abraham, Amit Madheshiya from India, UK.
“The Cave” by Kim Jinman and Chon Jiyoung from South Korea won the Best Animated Short award of the ShortFest 2022.
The Special Mention award went to “The Originals” by Cristina Costantini and Alfie Kim Koetter from USA.
“The Sentence of Michael Thompson” by Kyle Thrash, Haley Elizabeth Anderson from USA won the Best Documentary Short award of the 2022 Palm Springs ShortFest.
The Special Mention award went to “Haulout” by Evgenia Arbugaeva and Maxim Arbugaev from UK.
“Further and Further Away” by Polen Ly from Cambodia won the Best Live-Action Over 15 Minutes award of the 2022 ShortFest.
The Special Mention award went to “Makassar is a City for Football Fans” by Khozy Rizal from Indonisia, France.
The best award in Live-Action Short 15 Minutes and Under competition section of the ShortFest 2022 went to “The Right Words” by Adrian Moyse Dullin from France.
The Special Mention award went to “Madhu” by Tanmay Chowdhary and Tanvi Chowdhary from India.
The Best International Short award of the ShortFest 2022 went to “Sideral” by Carlos Segundo from France, Brazil.
The Special Mention award went to “Some Kind of Intimacy” by Toby Bull from UK, France.
The Best U.S. Short award of the 28th Palm Springs International ShortFest went to “Act of God” by Spencer Cook and Parker Smith from USA.
The Special Mention award went to “Chaperone” by Sam Max from USA.
The ShortFest Local Jury Award went to “BABYBANGZ” by Juliana Kasumu from USA, UK.
The Special Mention award went to “El Carrito” by Zahida Pirani from USA.
The Young Cineastes Award of the ShortFest went to “Lucky Fish” by Emily May Jampel from USA.
The Special Mention award went to “Picture Day” by Kelly Pike from USA.
The 2022 Shorties! Award of the Palm Springs ShortFest went to “Cat and Moth” by India Barnardo from Canada, UK.
The Special Mention award went to “Lost Brain” by Isabelle Favez from Switzerland.
The Best Student Animation award of the 2022 ShortFest went to “The Seine’s Tears” by Yanis Belaid, Eliott Benard, Nicolas Mayeur, Etienne Moulin, Hadrien Pinot, Lisa Vicente, Philippine Singer, Alice Letailleur from France.
The Best Student Documentary award of the 2022 Palm Springs ShortFest went to “La Prova” by Toni Isabella Valenzi from Belgium.
The Special Mention award went to “Love, Dad” by Diana Cam Van Nguyen from Czech Republic, Slovakia.
The Best Student International Short award of the 2022 Palm Springs International ShortFest went to “Bug” by Bar Cohen from Israel.
The Special Mention award went to “Stained Skin” by Mandy Peterat, Adam Graf from Germany.
The 2022 ShortFest Best Student U.S. Short award went to “Foreign Uncle” by Sining Xiang from USA, China.
The Best Comedy Short award of the ShortFest 2022 went to “The Diamond” by Vedran Rupic from Sweden.
The Special Mention award went to “Past Life” by Rose O’Shea from USA.
The Best LGBTQ+ Short award of the 28th Palm Springs International ShortFest went to “High Jump” by Lennert Madou from Belgium.

The Best Midnight Short award of the ShortFest went to “Your Houseplants Are Screaming” by Benjamin Roberds from USA.

“Meantime” by Michael T. Workman from USA won the Vimeo Staff Pick Award in the 28th Palm Springs International ShortFest.
The MOZAIK Bridging the Borders Award went to “Freedom Swimmer” by Olivia Martin-McGuire from Australia, France, UK, Hong Kong.
The Special Mention award went to “Breakpoint” by Nicolas Panay from France.
The Canadian animated short film “The Fall” by Desirae Witte won the 2022 ShortFest Audience Award for Best Animated Short Film.
