40th Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival has announced the complete list of award winners for 2022 festival, which took place from August 8-14.

Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) takes place every year in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island as well as satellite locations throughout the state. RIIFF is accredited as a qualifying festival by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the British Academy of Film and Television and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT).

Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) is an Academy Award® qualifying festival for the short film categories. Winners of Best Short Film Live Action (Grand Prize), Best Documentary Short (Grand Prize), and Best Animated Short (Grand Prize) will be eligible for consideration in the short film categories of the Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the films otherwise complies with the Academy Rules.

Rhode Island International Film Festival 2022 winners

The 2022 Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival has announced its winners for the 40th edition in 34 categories.

The Pakistani short drama “Sandstorm” (“Mulaqat”) by Seemab Gul, the Irish animated short film “The Fall of the Ibis King” by Mikai Geronimo and Josh O’Caimh and the American short documentary “Almeda” by Paul Hairston won the Grand Prizes of the 2022 Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival and earned RIIFF’s official Academy nomination.

Best Live Action Short

Grand Prize:
“Sandstorm” (“Mulaqat”) (Pakistan), Directed by Seemab Gul
