Prague Independent Film Festival (PIFF) has announced the complete list of award winners for 2022 festival, organizers announced on September 21.
Prague Independent Film Festival (PIFF) is an annual event focusing on international independent cinema. Its purpose is to show outstanding independent films, recognize and support new filmmakers and to enhance awareness and understanding of cinematography as art among diverse audiences.
The main awards of the 2022 Prague Independent Film Festival went to the feature films “The Road to Galena” by Joe Hall (USA), “Troubled Minds” by Raitis and Lauris Abele (Latvia) and “The Ghost Writer” by Paul Wilkins (UK). The awards ceremony was held in the stunning historical cinema Lucerna.
“The Road to Galena” directed by Joe Hall and starring Ben Winchell, is about a young man working in law, who ends up missing the rural life he was accustomed to.
The film was praised for its heartfelt story and received the Grand Prix and the Best Director awards.
Directed by the Ābele brothers, “Troubled Minds” tells the story of two artist brothers facing a spiritual crisis.
Filled with vivid imagery all through, “Troubled Minds” premiered at the FIAPF-accredited Tallinn Black Nights Festival, or PÖFF.
The complicated and stirring film by the Ābele brothers was a highlight of the 2022 Prague Independent Film Festival and grabbed the Best Feature Film and the Best Screenplay awards.
Directed by Paul Wilkins, “The Ghost Writer” is about a man, who struggles to come out of the shadows of his famous writer father. The protagonist ends up plagiarizing his father’s book, but also has to live with the consequences. Convincing acting by Luke Mably was awarded at the festival and the art direction was noted by the jury.
“A Minute To Midnight: A Musical” by director Caue Barcelos and producer / songwriter Patrick Flanagan received the Best Musical Award.
